The LMS trusted by large institutions

Since 2004, a global Sakai community within the global higher education sector as well as commercial affiliates have been providing a growing, flexible, and innovative open source platform with powerful functionality for online learning. With a wide-ranging suite of features, Sakai provides the tools necessary for instructors, students, research investigators, and project leaders to succeed in their online initiatives.

Every release of Sakai is bundled with a standard set of core tools, which deliver discussion capabilities, announcements, messaging, file management, assignment delivery, assessments, and more. And with the release of version 11, Sakai is better than ever, with a responsive design interface, an improved Gradebook tool, enhanced lesson modules, and more. The built-in collaboration tools available in Sakai support a range of traditional courses with online components such as resource management and forum-based discussion as well as more advanced online approaches such as flipped classrooms and fully-online teaching.
Sakai also includes dedicated project work sites, which allow organisations and project teams to coordinate project administration, share resources, schedule activities, develop collaborative work products and track progress towards completion.

Sakai is at the forefront of learning management thanks to its investment in open standards like IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). By providing a simple, safe, and secure method for passing student info, grades, and more between the learning management system and compatible third-party tools, LTI paves the way for a new era of interoperability. And as more and more applications adopt these standards, Sakai becomes even more capable, seamlessly integrating unique, powerful new functionality into the next generation of digital learning environments.

Sakai is developed to meet or exceed all accessibility design principles found in recognised international standards, such as the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level A and AA Success Criteria, as well as the WAI-ARIA Suite that support existing and emerging adaptive technologies.
